Do you have fibromyalgia (FMS)or know someone who does?? It seems that many scrappers do, including me. Scrapbooking is a wonderful outlet for creativity and forming friendships without expending too much energy which FMS sufferers do not have to spare. Winter is the worst time for me with the many storms that pass through the Midwest and into Michigan. The days just before the storm tend to be days of significant muscle pain, fatigue, lack of concentration (brain fog) and often depression. If you watch the news in the US you will know that we have had quite a series of storms that have also hit Michigan before they've moved on to Pennsylvania, Virginia, W Virginia and New York which have been very hard hit this year. A friend asked me recently if I was ok because I hadn't been out and about much. Do I tell you all this to gain sympathy?? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! But to increase understanding for anyone who suffers from chronic diseases/syndromes that can be devastating while not appearing to be 'sick' at all. :( I was several days late posting this challenge this month because I just didn't feel like doing anything even though I had a color palette ready. Today the sun is shining and that helps and no storms are on their way!! I even went out and made a, hopefully last of the year, snowman LOL The snow is melting pretty fast with the 39 degree temperature today. Yay!!!!!!!!

Have you ever seen the children's book Stranger in the Woods: A Photographic Fantasy by Carl R Sams II and his wife, Jean Stoick? It is a truly stunning photographic picture book, available at Amazon.com, that combines the wonder of a wintery forest with the magic of a heartwarming, delightful tale of animals reacting to a snowman that suddenly appears in their woods. The photos in this wonderful book inspire me in my photography and were the inspiration for my newest kit, named for the book, Stranger in the Woods.

Free Sampler - Golden Summer

Introducing one of my newer kits, Golden Summer!

The bright pinks and purples of spring fade as summer settles in with days of warm sunshine and bright blue skies. Daisies, coneflowers and Black-eyed Susans dot the fields and gardens with splashes of bright whites, yellows and oranges. Corn lilies and soft blue Chicory grow wild adding a bit of contrast along the roadside.

These are the things that inspired me to create this kit with its warm yellows and oranges and soft blues. It makes me think of days when life's pace was a bit slower and more relaxed. The Sampler includes 2 bright, sunny papers and 8 elements that will provide the perfect backdrop for flowers, summer activities or just about any photo.
I LOVE the cart with flowers that I found at grannyart! She has some pretty amazing things that I often work into my kits.

Free Softly Autumn QP

I made a QP for you from my Manic Monday free kit (see post below). The photo I used in the preview was taken last year when our fall colors were at their peak and were almost glowing. That is about 2 weeks away yet this year but with the high winds and rain we are having right now I am not sure if there will be any leaves left on the trees!! Anyway, I hope you like the QP.

New PTB CHallenge for Sep-Oct - Free mini kits

Hi everyone,
I just got back from a week spent in Michigan's Upper Penninsula ("the UP"), mostly along the Lake Superior shore line. It was beautiful there although the fall colors had not yet developed very much. This week and next they will be at their peek and many photographers will travel there to capture the gorgeous colors. The UP has so many lakes, rivers and low areas that it is an absolute favorite for photographers and tourists alike. The weather was quite mild last week with day temps in the 70's and lots of sunshine. Pictured Rocks National Shoreline is another favorite for shutterbugs with the high cliffs and beautiful rock formations and mineral stains on the rocks which are only viewable by boat tour or hiking in the National Forest. Munising Bay on Lake Superior was so calm and warm one evening that we waded on the beach while waiting for sunset. If you have never been to Lake Superior then you will wonder why wading was a big deal! Even in mid-summer, Lake Superior never gets warmer than about 55F and the average temp is 40F!! The wave action was minimal that evening too which is pretty uncommon. On the other hand, the day we took the Pict Rock boat tour the waves were 3-4 ft and the boat was heaving all over the place!! The tourists getting off the previous boat warned everyone they were going to need a barf bag LOL. No one on our tour got sick, at least not anyone on the open, upper deck, but it WAS very windy and the boat was rocking quite a bit! DH had never seen the Pict Rocks so it was a real adventure for him.

We visited 10 of the many Lighthouses along the Michigan Great Lakes coastlines. I already had pictures of some of them but got better pics this time. One of them took about 1 1/2hrs to reach because once you left blacktopped roads they became gravel, then narrower gravel, then sandy gravel, then 1 track sandy in the middle of NO WHERE!!! It was 18 miles (yes it took 1 1/2 hrs!!) of this before we finally saw the Lake Superior shoreline and then the lighthouse. The UP is very much a wilderness in many places and preserved in State and National Parks/Forests for all to be able to enjoy. It was SO worth the drive though because the shoreline is so beautiful, clean and sparkling! The water is actually aqua in many places because of the white sandy bottom. If you have ever been to Niagra Falls then you will know what I am talking about!!! Most lighthouses are not used any more so are abandoned until some kind of historical group takes it over and raises funds to do repairs, etc. Then it is usually opened to the public, at least part of the time. Some lighthouses are privately owned so you just view and take photos from a distance.

ADSD Blog Train 'School Daze' starts today!

I have gotten involved in some genealogy research recently so I think that is what made me do a Vintage School Kit. I used to do a lot research but just like many other things it got put aside but never forgotten. We were given a box of old photos last year and I was looking at them again recently and that is what got me started. It is so addictive! LOL The records that are now available on the internet are pretty amazing and it is just so fun. I have quite a bit of information but last week I actually came across something pretty amazing to me! I found the WWI Draft Registration for my great-grandfather. The surprise is that his middle name is not what we thought it was. His grave stone has an 'L' for the middle initial and his father's name was Lorenzo so I think someone a while back decided that must be his middle name. It turns out the his youngest son was actually named after his middle name, LaVern but spelled La Verne and then in the next generation was given to my Uncle with the same spelling as my great-grandfather, his grandfather. I know it is accurate information because it looks like he may have filled out the Draft Registration form himself and he definitely signed it! His wife is named there too which just makes the case stronger that this IS his draft registration. So now I have a copy of his handwriting and signature! Pretty cool!! I was a baby when he passed away so I never knew him and this is pretty special to me. I'd had a photo of him for quite a while and my dad looks so much like him it is amazing!!

Anyway....Here are the previews of my version of 'School Daze'. It contains 6 papers, one of which is made in a 'poster' style of an old school room. There is 1 ABC-123 Overlay which I started just to add to one of the papers but I really liked it so saved it as an overlay. Let me know if you like it too. This is my first overlay. There are 6 frames, 1 chalk board, 3 tags, 3 tied ribbons, 1 ruler, 1 ink pot with feather, 1 set of stacked books and 1 vintage bookcase that could have been in an old school room. Hi,
Are you all in the US having a good summer? It is going by so fast! We have had unseasonably cool weather here in the Great Lakes area. In July we don't usually get much rain and it us usually hot and muggy! The night time temps have been in the 50's F and even in the 40's F! This is the coolest July on record. The days have been beautiful though, bright and sunny without the extreme heat and no humidity. Gotta love that!

My July August Paint the Barn Color Challenge at Moo Two Designs is up and running with a topic and kit called Strictly Stripes. The starter kit is available in the PTB challenge Forum. Moo Two Designs Paint the Barn Color Challenge

Greetings on this Monday afternoon... Did you have a good weedend? We attended a graduation party for DH's niece, the last of all the nieces and nephews. Can't believe that she is old enough to graduate already!!! Kaitlyn and her mom and dad made almost all of the food and it was great! Of course I ate too much but not too bad. I have lost 16 pounds in the last 6 weeks and DO NOT want to undo that and have to start all over again! I have done that to many times LOL

I also spent part of the day on Saturday working with the Junior Master Gardener students that are part of this summer's class at the county Extension Office. It is such a WONDERFUL program and I absolutely LOVE working with the kids!!! I have now achieved Advanced Master Gardener status and am just so pleased to see them grow and learn and for them to share my passion for gardening. This program is much like a 4H program but the topics are geared toward things like gardening, of course, composting, insects, environmental concerns, soil conservation, and many other topics. Next week we will be taking them to a Hybrid Lily Farm where they will actually be able to create their very own lily hybrid. We then plant them in the Grand Ideas Garden, Jr Mast Gardner section, at the extension office so they can come back and see them anytime. Last years creations will be blooming soon so it will be interesting to see what kinds of color combinations they created. Another field trip later will be to the State University Gardens where they can see a very large selection of plants that are part of the Universities Horticulture program. Absolutely gorgeous!!!

My starter kit is called 'Just Dotty' and can be used to create a LO or you can create your own kit using the color palette or just create a few elements/papers to share if you'd like. Hi,
I am finally back from visiting my DD or should I say rested up from the visit!!LOL It is always so good to see them and we do lots of activities while we are there. They always seem to know the best places to visit. DSIL took us on a tour of the nearby city where he works as civil engineer for the city where some of the MOST expensives homes are built around a beautiful, HUGE lake. WOW!! Some of them are incredible and all are so beautiful!! We also saw the new movie 'Night at the Museum 2'. Sequels never seem to be quite as good as the original but it was still a great movie.

I just wanted to remind you that the June ADSD blog train will be arriving BACK at the station soon and the Soft Denim minikit will be placed in my new store (still a secret :>) )after the 30th so be sure to grab it now!

DSO May Color Challenge - Summer Brights

Hi,

I have been working with this gorgeous color palette for 3 weeks and just finally finished it up. I actually made 2 kits because I love it so much! (More about that later ;<)) I named my kit Summer Brights because the palette is just so bright and summery. I think of watermelons and picnics when I look at it LOL. Speaking of summer...I think it hit Michigan a bit early! We had temps in the 80's 2 days this week! Not quite ready for that! I went yesterday to have my annual mammogram. It is't bad at all and is SO worth it!! My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago which was caught very early and was easily removed. It was only the size of a pin head! That is WAY to small to feel with a self-exam. That just points out how very important it is to get that mammogram done!! Can you tell I am a nurse LOL? Don't put it off! I can't believe it is Memorial Weekend already here in the US. Everyone is flying their flags and getting ready for picnics. In Michigan we have lots of lakes (besides the 4 big ones surrounding the entire state) so many people head for the lake or go camping at one of the many State Parks. I can almost smell the wood fires burning now...except it is quite dry here right now and fires probably won't be allowed. Very unusual to be so dry this early in the year. I hope you enjoy this colorful kit and don't forget to come back on Monday for the last part of my 'Awakening' kit!!! Have a great weekend!!

Hi...
I have been so busy this week traveling back and forth 3 times to my hometown where both of our moms live for Mother's Day, doing errands and a graduation open house! It is 90 miles each way and it just seems to take up so much time. It is worth it of course but it puts me behind in things that I need to get done! LOL

Awakening Week 2

Hi all,
I hope that you all had a wonderful Mother's Day, either with your children or with your mom. Mother's Day can also be a bittersweet day for many who have lost a mom or a child. I know it is also a very difficult day for women who have never been able to have a child and my heart goes out to you....

I had a huge surprise this weekend. I entered a LO in Beth Rimmer's Art Doll NSD Challenge at Digital Scrapbook Place (Digitals)and was one of two LO's chosen in the 'Did a Double Take' Category. I was so surprised because there were so many great and very creative entries!! The challenge was to create a doll with a variety of elements from Beth's Art Doll kit and add a photo of your face to the doll. It was a lot of fun and Beth had quite a variety of 'parts' you could choose from to create your doll. You can check it out here if you are curious. :) You will have fun looking at all the dolls that were created!!

I have another part of my Awakening kit for you. I am not sure why I chose to separate it into colors but it seemed like a good idea at the time LOL. Hope you like it!!

Awakening Week 1

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!! DH is finally taking a few days off from work and I hope to get some spring yard work done LOL. Thursday it rained all day long even creating huge puddles in the yard! At least it will make it easier to pull the weeds that are growing like...weeds LOL!!

April is almost gone already!!

I thought spring would never reach Michigan and now April is almost over! The grass is SO green and almost needs mowing and the early spring flowers basically melted in the unseasonably warm weather last week. My Magnolia blossoms were buds one day and too open the next day for good pictures. The edges are all brown and the high winds are shredding the petals. So sad... But the good news about spring is that more flowers come up every day. The early tulips are open and the later ones have buds. Can you tell I love spring and flowers LOL.

I have noticed that my starter kit 'Spring Rain' has been downloaded 88 times so you must like it. I have to say though that I wish there were 88 scrappers playing the Barnyard Color Challenge at MooTwo Designs! I'd even be happy with half that number LOL. A color challenge can be so much fun and it just might be the kick start that you need to begin your designing career so come on over and play!!!

I have just finished a new kit which I will be posting parts of each week during the month of May. I called it Awakening in honor of the awakening of the earth after a long, cold winter here in Michigan but also because of my venture into scrapkit designing, a new arena of scrapbooking for me. I created 2 QP's from this kit for you as teasers so you will come back to get each part LOL.

Whew! Just finished another kit for the blog hop color challenge at ADS! The theme is Summer Beach and the colors are great for this theme. Hope you come back on May 1st to get this kit and you'll find the rest of the links here for this blog hop.

We've had beautiful weather here in Michigan for the last several days and the temp actually made it to the high 60'sF today!! It just lifts your spirits after the long, typically gray winters here. We have a row of naturalized daffodils along our rather long driveway that are just gorgeous! I was out yesterday laying on the ground taking pictures LOL. The birds are singing and the spring peepers (frogs LOL) are peeping up a storm! It actually gets very loud sometimes!

New Color Challenge at Moo Two!!

Good Morning!!

Happy Tax Day to those of you in the US!!

I am hosting the Paint the Barn Color challenge at Moo Two Designs this month (April 15th - May 14th). Whoo Hoo!! I created a mini starter scrapkit called 'Spring Rain' that needs elements! The challenge is to add at least 3 elements that this kit is missing and create a LO and post it in the Color Challenge gallery. You may then share your creations by zipping them and uploading to a file sharing site. You can also just skip the starter kit and create your own minikit to share using the color palette. The layer style that I used, which is not mandatory, and the color palette chip with color numbers are included in the zip file. Please join us!! Color Challenge Kit

I have been busy designing scrapkits lately, taking on 3 Color Challenges at 3 different scrapbook sites this month! LOL Today I have links to my kit for the DSO Color Challenge. The muted tones are very different from the usual Easter or Springtime scrapkits but are very lovely and would be perfect for Heritage kits. I would really love to hear from you since this is the first time I have posted a kit on my blog (obviously, since this is only the, what, 3rd or 4th post LOL) I hope you like it ;>)

It has been 4 months since I started this blog and haven't done anything with it since. Soon I will begin posting photos and Scrapbook Pages. I did add a new header today. It was created by Allie of Allie Browns Blogspot. She used Sherah of Skrapper Digitals' Page Kit 'Thankful'. Didn't they both do a fantastic job!!
